Under471 Skate Park

Under 471 is a skate spot built by skateboarders for skateboarders. Starting in 2007, with a simple ledge built mostly of reclaimed material, it has grown into something more. It is a place for skaters to create, meet, sometimes dance, but most importantly skate. The spot has developed as a skateboard community project, funded and maintained mostly by the people that use it on a regular basis. There is a large group of skateboarders that have sacrificed lots of personal time, energy, and money into the development of this safe haven. Skaters who skate, skaters who used to skate, skaters too young to work or can’t find work, skaters with families, college students, loners and exhibitionists have all been part of the process. It has truly been an ever-changing community group effort that grows every day. Nothing in life is permanent and this spot is no different. As crafts are honed, resources are acquired and contacts are met, it too will change. New faces will show up and be welcomed. Old faces will leave. With all the changes in ramps, people and size, there will always be only one constant… no bikes… really their pegs just hurt stuff too much.
